(Some of) The Grove Protestors will Ruin Your Grove Protest

July 14, 2011

FINAL UPDATE: Why Have I Spoken Against Certain Bohemian Grove Protestors This Year?

UPDATE 2# (7/15/11): I have changed the title of this post. The title used to also have the sentence, “Anonymous Video Likely a Fake.” Not so. The Anonymous video was produced by well-intentioned persons in the US, who would like more attention on the Bohemian Grove. That probably seems pretty apparent to many of you though, but to Mary Moore and myself, it was suspicious in timing and presentation.

Gearing up at the Bohemian Grove

July 11, 2011

source: Press Democrat  July 11, 2011

San Francisco Giants’ boss Bill Neukom and Vaughn Walker, the retired federal judge who threw out Proposition 8, will be among the featured speakers at the Bohemian Grove encampment of rich and powerful men beginning Friday in Monte Rio.

Also scheduled to present Lakeside Talks during the 17-day Bohemian Grove retreat are Daniel Yergin, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and energy expert; Willie Smits, a conservationist and defender of Borneo’s orangutans; and former Secretaries of State George Shultz and James Baker, according to a source.

The talks, presented beside a small lake ringed by towering redwoods, are a daily highlight of the summer encampment held by the San Francisco-based Bohemian Club and dating back to 1878.

As Bohemians Gather, so Does Lunatic Fringe of Activist World

July 10, 2011

If you don’t know, I hate hearing about “sacrifices”, “Molech”, or “Satan worship” in context to the Bohemian Grove. So yes – I do agree with this article on premise.

source: Press Democrat   July 10, 2011

Veteran Sonoma County peace/justice activist Mary Moore has stood at the gate of the Bohemian Grove near Monte Rio many times to hoot at the well-connected men driving in.

But you can believe that Mary, founder decades ago of the Bohemian Grove Action Network, will have nothing to do with the group that may protest and picnic at the gate as the Bohemians’ Midsummer Encampment kicks off this weekend.

Mary has her issues with the men of the Grove, but the accusations made in fliers calling for people to confront them on Saturday and Sunday, the 16th and 17th, are way too much for her.

This is stuff from beyond the fringe. The flier, found also at commoncrime.net, exhumes and reconstitutes crazed allegations that the “satanic” Bohemians “conduct a ceremonial sacrifice of children where they will be symbolically set on fire.”

Bohemian Grove – Men Only

July 10, 2011

Earlier this week I was contacted by Debra Saunders, a columnist at the SF Gate. She wanted to know about the Bohemian Grove. I am just so glad this does not contain any of the misleading information about Molech or owl worship, sacrifice or satanism. Thanks Debra.  See the full story at her column.Brian @ Boho Blog

“Weaving Spiders Come Not Here” is the motto of San Francisco’s Bohemian  Club. The motto is supposed to represent the club’s edict against doing business  during its annual Bohemian Grove retreat, which commences Thursday on 2,700  acres 75 miles north of the city. As club spokesman and member Sam Singer  explained, “It’s a group of gentlemen who are really genuinely interested in  arts, theater, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll.” The retreat gives members a chance to  “get away from work. It’s forbidden to talk about or solicit business at the  club or grove.”

The “weaving spiders” motto also provides cover for a club that discriminates  against women.

Thus, in the Bay Area, good liberals and civil libertarians who would not  dream of joining a club that refuses to admit blacks or Jews, raise their  glasses in a club that discriminates against women.

House Minority Leader Nancy  Pelosi’s husband, Paul, is a member.

Vaughn Walker, the former federal judge who overturned California’s same-sex  marriage law, is a member. MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews is a member.

Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart is a member. Ditto band member Bob Weir.

There are more big names on the right, starting with former President George  H.W. Bush, former Gov. Pete Wilson and former Secretary of State Henry  Kissinger.

Business titans have long bankrolled the retreats. A roster of 2010 members  released by norcaltruth.org – the club does not release its membership list –  includes a couple of Rockefellers and the ubiquitous Koch brothers. Hence  conspiracy theories about sinister deals cut amid the redwoods.

Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt is a member. William R. Hearst III,  trustee of the Hearst Corp., which writes my paycheck, is a member. I have  friends who are members.

John McCain has addressed the group. Ditto Francis Ford Coppola.

Like good Democrats, Presidents Obama and Bill Clinton have  avoided Bohemia.

“When I first started and they acquired my services, it was to help handle  protests at the grove and the City Club,” Singer noted. “Over the years, it’s  gone from a thousand people to literally one person.”

That one person is Brian Romanoff of norcaltruth.org, and he told me he  doesn’t go there to “protest” so much as to “reach out and inform the members”  as to why they should make retreat policy seminars – on Afghanistan or nuclear  power – public.

He thinks some members are “probably guilty” of war crimes. He doesn’t reach  out to them. “I don’t really want to get to know Henry Kissinger.”

Bohemian Grove Ordered to Halt Logging Program

March 25, 2011

source: Press Democrat   Mar 24, 2011

A Sonoma County Superior Court judge has rejected the state’s approval of a timber harvesting plan at the Bohemian Club’s retreat in Monte Rio, ruling that alternatives were not adequately considered.

Environmentalists who brought suit against the Bohemian Club a year ago called the ruling a victory.

“They will have to redo their alternative analysis and that is a very important point,” said Jay Halcomb of the Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club.

“We want basically to cut at a lower logging rate,” Halcomb said. “They justified the high rate on the basis of fire danger, but you don’t have to cut trees to reduce fire danger, you want to cut brush.”

Bohemian Club officials, however, said they were equally happy with the ruling, which was handed down Thursday by Superior Court Judge Rene Chouteau.

Bohemian Grove News Reports from 1984-1996

February 4, 2011

The Bohemian Grove Blog      Feb 4, 2011

These news reports have not been uploaded onto the internet until now!

The Bohemian Grove Action Network once had 1,000 people line the street leading into the Bohemian Grove in protests for different causes. One time the BGAN organized a “web” to be woven, and used to block Bohemian Grovers from entering or exiting the encampment. The group held protests, rallies and other events Grove related close to 2 decades. Mary Moore is still collecting data daily and adding to her archives. Enjoy…

Brad Meltzers Decoded: Secret Societies

Update 2#: Response from Peter Phillips to the History Channel is as follows:

The history channel essentially ignored the extensive data of the networks of power present at the Grove. They gave a few incidents of presidential and cabinet level talks, but failed to describe the extensive interconnectedness of corporate America present at the Grove. I am disappointed in that they tried to make the show more about entertainment by sneaking in with shock jock Alex Jones, instead of addressing the networks of power that are facilitated at the Grove.

End Update #2

Update#1: Me saying that I have very little criticism about the show was not specific enough. In my opinion it would have been very easy for the History Channel to make a mockery of Peter, Mary, Alex or anyone else involved. Everyone was treated with respect on the show, no one was called crazy, nor were any negative labels at all given to any of the guests. That said:

The show did miss a lot.(TV is entertainment though, not truth!) Mary Moore, in response to the show was very disappointed that so much time was given to the subject of trying to sneak in. Focusing on this means that you aren’t hearing about the important “lakeside talks” or “museum talks”. The meat and potatoes are the lakeside talks; who gives them, what they are about, and what do they promote.

While I am happy at not being called crazy, Mary Moore brings up some critical and valid points in an email:

It is not true that Alex is the only person to successfully infiltrate the Grove over the years: in fact he is very late to that claim although that has never stopped him from making it.

We got Rick Clogher in there in 1980, the first year we protested through the help of a union steward with a raised consciousness who we quickly dubbed our “deep throat”. Rick’s extensive and serious article appeared in MOTHER JONES the following year. Then in 1982, Michael Dressler and Garrett Connelly from TIME MAG went in with help from our guide and watched Kissinger give a Lakeside Talk on the “Challenges of the ’80s” They wrote a story that got killed by some editors who happened to be in attendance. Then in 1986 we helped reporter Phillip Weiss get inside and he wrote an excellent article for SPY MAGAZINE that is to this day one of the best ever pieces of reporting on Bohemian Grove. In between and after those three examples many other national, regional and local reporting happened, some superficial and some serious, by journalists who were able to get the word out through research and hard work without setting foot in the place.

It is simply not necessary to “get inside” in order to figure out that the Lakeside Talks are public policy speeches floated without any public scrutiny to the elite of the corporate, military, financial and government circles. The main emphasis of this Decoded show was on “getting inside” the Grove so they could find out the “real truth” like it would all be laid out for them amidst the rustic camps in the middle of winter. I mean, what in the world did they expect to discover? Yet two thirds of the show was taken up with the adventures of these three fools who call themselves the “decoders” and couldn’t decode their way out of a paper bag. So they were quickly arrested after floating down the river (with the help of Alex Jones) and somehow our local newspaper forgot to check the Sheriff files that day
so their arrest was never reported. Decoded bailed them out.

And while I don’t disagree with the conclusion of the show’s sage, Brad Meltzer, that the secrecy of the place drives people’s curiosity, that isn’t the final answer when it comes to the Grove. We’ve known that answer since the first year we protested there and anyone actually paying attention knows it too. Like the WikiLeaks cables, the content of the ideas floated each year at the summer encampment (many of which play out in subsequent years) affect you and I and our lives. Caspar Weinberger’s 1981 speech on Rearming America is only one example that got mentioned in this show. There are so many more with implications for the rest of us so yes, the secrecy is
appalling but more important are the topics and the power of the men who talk about them behind closed doors. Decoded did nothing to lift that cover and in fact left the impression that if the secrecy ended all would be cool.

(End of Update #1)

The History Channel’s “Decoded” covered the Bohemian Grove on Thursday Jan 27th. I am happy with the show that was put together, I have very little criticism and will say “thanks” to Brad Meltzer. I was cited as an “anonymous” source and if you look on the web for the mentioned 2010 Guest List, you will be directed right back to this, or my other website; Nor Cal Truth!
